Climate Change Adaptation Forum Focusing on Food Security and Traditional Plant Use

This forum is for community‐level practitioners, academics, government representatives and community leaders who work in the area of climate change adaptation in First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities in Canada and Tribes in the United States. The forum will be an interactive workshop where participants will share challenges and strategies to building resilience and adapting to climate change. Participants will develop draft action plans that address their own situations and needs, and outline key next steps. There will be networking opportunities to either build on existing, or create new, communities of practice. The results of this forum will feed into the Adaptation Partnership, an international initiative (see www.adaptationpartnership.org).

Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) was founded in 1994 by a small group of First Nation leaders from across Canada who recognized the need for Aboriginal peoples to have the capacity to solve environmental problems affecting their lands and resources. It develops and implements sustainable solutions to proactively address environmental issues affecting First Nations lands and resources, using an integrated approach that combines multiple perspectives and fosters collaborative relationships.Funding for the climate adaptation forum has been provided by the North American Partnership for Environmental Community Action program of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation.
