DEADLINE: National Center for Atmospheric Research Journalism Fellowship

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) invites applications for its fifth annual NCAR Journalism Fellowship, which runs from July 16-20, 2012. The NCAR Journalism Fellowship provides journalists with an opportunity to deepen their understanding and expertise on atmospheric and Earth system sciences. Application deadline is April 13, 2012.

"A Measured Rebuttal to China Over Solar Panels"

"The Commerce Department said on Tuesday that it would impose tariffs on solar panels imported from China after concluding that the Chinese government provided illegal export subsidies to manufacturers there. The tariffs were smaller, at 2.9 to 4.73 percent, than some American industry executives had expected."

"BP Atlantis Whistleblower Alleges Imminent Safety Threat for 1st Time"

"A whistleblower is alleging for the first time in a yearslong lawsuit against BP that its massive Atlantis oil platform operation off the Louisiana coast faces present and imminent danger. Kenneth Abbott first complained in 2009 that BP had failed to keep required records of the design of pressure-relief systems and other safety mechanisms onboard the Atlantis."

"Oregon First to Juice Up West Coast Electric Highway"

"CENTRAL POINT, Ore. --- Electric vehicle drivers can now cruise along the southern Oregon stretch of Interstate 5 without range anxiety. Officials from the Oregon Department of Transportation, along with charging station partner AeroVironment and the Oregon Department of Energy, opened the first phase of the West Coast Electric Highway in a ceremony on Friday. When complete, the highway will stretch along Interstate 5 from the Canadian to Mexican borders."
