After two years of work, the federal government has released its draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement that is designed to identify and evaluate the best areas on public lands for building utility-scale solar plants, and to address policies and efforts needed to do so. The next step is to ask for another round of public feedback.
The 90-day public comment period ends March 17, 2011. Prior to that, there will be 14 meetings in 6 Western states and Washington, D.C.:
- Feb. 2: Washington, D.C.
- Feb. 7: El Centro, CA
- Feb. 8: Indian Wells, CA
- Feb. 15: Las Vegas, NV
- Feb. 16: Goldfield, NV
- Feb. 17: Caliente, NV
- Feb. 22: Sacramento, CA
- Feb. 23: Barstow, CA
- March 1: Phoenix, AZ
- March 2: Tucson, AZ
- March 3: Las Cruces, NM
- March 7: Alamosa, CO
- March 9: Cedar City, UT
- March 10: Salt Lake City, UT
