Database: Fracking Yields Gushers of Cash to Congress Power Brokers

December 18, 2013

The same fracking revolution that has pumped up U.S. oil and gas production has also yielded gushers of cash to members of Congress who are — or could be — helpful to the drilling industry's interests.

That's the conclusion of a study issued by the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) November 20, 2013. CREW found that campaign contributions from the fracking industry rose much more in districts hosting fracking than in nonfracking districts between 2004 and 2012.

The campaign contribution data CREW used in its study is available in database form here.
