"Blast Rips Through South Philadelphia Refinery, Triggering Major Fire"

"An explosion ripped through a refinery in South Philadelphia early Friday, lighting up the night sky and triggering a massive fire.

No injuries were reported and it appears firefighters have contained the blaze. The Platt Bridge near the refinery is closed and residents in the immediate area are asked to shelter in place.

The blast was reported about 3:20 a.m., according to the Fire Department and it escalated to a third alarm within 20 minutes."

Patricia Madej, Andrew Maykuth, and Joseph A. Gambardello report for the Philadelphia Inquirer June 21, 2019.
