Awards are given for outstanding coverage that positively impacts the critical issues of hunger, poverty and self-reliance. Enter by February 24, 2011 deadline.

CAJ recognizes outstanding Canadian reporting — with a particular focus on investigative work. Cash prizes are offered in several categories, including Photojournalism, Environmental and Climate Change Award, Emerging Indigenous Journalist Award, FOI Journalism Award and Student Award. Deadline: Jan 19, 2024.

Honors several classes of foreign affairs reporting with certificates and $1,000 awards. $200 entry fee. Deadline: Jan 31, 2024.

These awards include several categories of interest to environmental journalists, including one for environmental reporting. Cash prizes. Entry fees apply for most categories. Deadline: Feb 5, 2024.

Sponsored by the American Geophysical Union, the Perlman and Sullivan awards annually recognize excellence in Earth and space science news and features reporting, respectively, each with a $5,000 prize. The Cowen Award celebrates a career of outstanding reporting on Earth and space sciences (awarded every other year). Nominations due Mar 27, 2024.

This News Challenge is an opportunity to accelerate promising ideas and trends. Through this contest, we hope to help extend the spirit of open gov and to catalyze partnerships between hackers, civic innovators, governments, journalists and others. Closes April 5th.

The Fund is accepting applications for its next grant cycle, by the December 9 deadline. There's a special call for projects focusing on environmental and governmental accountability issues as a result of a generous grant from the Parks Foundation in Ithaca New York.

The FCIR Watchdog Fund is particularly interested in funding projects dealing with government corruption, waste and inefficiency; immigration; environment; education; and social justice. Proposals will be accepted until the extended deadline of Oct. 22, 2010.
