DEADLINE: The Sunrise Project RFP for Journalistic investigations Into Financial Institutions and Climate Change

Event Date:
February 23, 2023

The Sunrise Project (TSP) is looking to fund freelance investigative journalists to conduct medium- to long-term investigations into private financial institutions' role in driving the climate crisis.

We welcome all pitches exploring private financial institutions’ and financial regulators’ (in)action on fossil fuels (and clean energy) including impacts on Indigenous and other marginalised communities.

TSP has a particular focus on the following finance sectors/products:

  • Banks, including Royal Bank of Canada, Citigroup, Barclays, HSBC
  • Asset managers, including BlackRock and Vanguard
  • Bonds: issued by KEPCO, Adani, Total; invested in by Blackrock, PIMCO, TIAA, Abdrn; underwritten by banks (Citi, Barclays); credit ratings agencies (Moodys, S&P),
  • Asset owners, including CalPERS, Korean NPS, Norwegian Oil Fund
  • Insurance companies (Liberty Mutual, Berkshire Hathaway, Chubb, Lloyd's of London, Tokio Marine)
  • Private equity (KKR)
  • Central banks and regulators (Fed, ECB, Bundesbank, SNB)

Unfortunately, we cannot accept proposals solely related to the fossil fuel sector or other high-carbon companies, unless the financial backers are the focus of the piece.

Submit all questions and responses to this RFP to beau.osullivan@sunriseproject.org by February 23, 2023.
