International Forests Conference 2011

Event Date:
November 23, 2011 to November 24, 2011

European and international decision makers, journalists, civil servants and scientists in the domains of forestry, natural resources planning & management, environmental management, forest and biomass industry, and nature conservation will discuss what science can contribute to improved ecosystem services of forests in Europe and beyond.

Forests cover 31% of the total global land area. These forests give home to 80% of Earth’s terrestrial biodiversity and the livelihood of 1.6 billion people around the world depends on forests. Recognizing the global importance of forests the United Nations declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on conservation, multiple use and sustainable development of all types of forests.

On-site discussion on participatory forest management and ecosystem services in the Bosland Forest, the largest multipurpose forest landscape of Flanders (6000 ha) includes free conference dinner.

Conference participation including dinner is free, but registration is mandatory.
