Meet SEJ board member Halle Parker! Halle reports on the environment for WWNO's Coastal Desk. Her coverage spans a wide range of topics, from issues of environmental justice, Louisiana's ongoing coastal land loss crisis, the energy transition and climate change. Her work has been aired nationally on NPR programs such as Morning Edition, Here and Now, and All Things Considered. She also co-hosts the podcast Sea Change, which focuses on climate change and other environmental problems plaguing the Gulf Coast. Before coming to New Orleans Public Radio, she covered Louisiana's environment for The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate and down the bayou for the Houma Courier. She also worked for the National Audubon Society, the Danville Register & Bee and the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Halle is from a small town in Virginia and graduated from Longwood University with a Communication Studies degree in 2018. She loves playing soccer, painting with watercolors and starting the morning with a hot cup of tea.

Halle recommends SEJ membership to her colleagues, and said, "Journalism is a tough industry. It can be isolating for anyone, but especially when you're early in your career and from a marginalized background. SEJ has become my community as I try to find my place in this sprawling and, at times, overwhelming beat. If you're not sure where to turn, SEJ is where I go to get advice on my next step, whether that's for a story or in my career. For me, that kind of support is invaluable."
