Meet SEJ member and volunteer Sharon Guynup! Sharon is a journalist, author, photographer, producer and speaker with expertise in wildlife, health and environmental issues, including zoonotic disease and climate change. Her work has earned awards from the New York Press Club, the Society of Professional Journalists and the American Society of Journalists and Authors. She has edited for Scientific American, The Conversation, and other publications. Her investigative work for Nat Geo revealed black market wildlife trade from the infamous Tiger Temple in Thailand that sparked its closure in 2016 and exposed extreme animal abuse, wildlife trafficking and other criminal behavior at U.S. tiger tourism attractions. She consults on wildlife and ecosystems as a Global Fellow with Wilson Center. Sharon authored essays for the book "Photographers Against Wildlife Crime"; co-authored "Tigers Forever: Saving the World's Most Endangered Big Cat" with photographer Steve Winter; and launched and edited the "State of the Wild" book series. She worked as a consulting producer on the TV series "TRAFFICKED" and is currently working on a new TV series.

Sharon volunteers because "As journalists and storytellers, our work requires the generosity of others every day: people that share their time and expertise with us. I feel compelled to continue that circle, contributing where I can. I’ve mentored with SEJ for many years. In the process, I’ve had the opportunity to forge powerful relationships with some brilliant young journalists, friendships that continue to this day," she said. Become an SEJ volunteer today!
