"Nicolas Sarkozy proposed a carbon tax on American-made goods if Trump pulls out of climate accord.
On Sunday, Sarkozy told the French television channel TF1 that he would “demand that Europe put in place a carbon tax … of 1 to 3 percent for all products coming from the United States, if the United States doesn’t apply environmental rules that we are imposing on our companies.”
Sarkozy served as the French head of state from 2007 to 2012 and is currently running for office again.
His statement comes in response to the election of Donald Trump. On the campaign trail, Trump vowed to pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement, a non-binding agreement of nearly 200 nations that’s intended to prevent catastrophic climate change by limiting carbon emissions."
