"Federal regulators approved Monday night plans for a proposed liquefied natural gas, or LNG, export terminal that would be the closest one to the Marcellus Shale region.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued final approval for Dominion Resources’ $3.8 billion Cove Point LNG project in Calvert County, Md. Construction to convert the existing import terminal into an export facility could begin in the coming months.
'We are pleased to receive this final approval that allows us to start constructing this important project that offers significant economic, environmental and geopolitical benefits,' said Dominion Energy president Diane Leopold in a news release. 'This order is based on more than two years of thorough, exhaustive analysis by FERC, along with numerous other federal and state agencies. It also reflects a robust public input process.'"
