ZERO 2014: A Conference for a Low Carbon Future

The City of Edmonton and the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC) are hosting ZERO 2014: a conference for a low carbon future on April 15-17, 2014.

ZERO 2014 at the Shaw Conference Centre will bring together international leaders from science, policy, clean technology, industry and government to address the shared goal of lowering our carbon footprint.

“While Edmonton continues to play a leading role in developing Alberta’s natural resources, at the same time we are trying to transition to a low-carbon, energy sustainable future,” said Mayor Don Iveson. “Conferences such as ZERO 2014 will give us fresh ideas on how we can advance the discussion of sustainability and start to lead the change.”

Conference speakers include Mayor Don Iveson, Premier Dave Hancock, Edmonton Oilers captain Andrew Ference, Deputy Minister Grant Sprague, Jeremy Rifkin and many more.

Mayor Iveson’s keynote address will highlight Edmonton's environmental sustainability achievements of the past and present, explaining how they have prepared us for even greater challenges that lie ahead involving climate change and energy. As well, he will explain why Edmonton needs to strive for greater energy efficiency and uptake of renewable energy, and the next steps in this transition.

World-leading experts will update attendees on the state of climate and energy challenges facing us today. Delegates will learn new strategies for addressing these challenges including best practices from organizations and communities around the world.

The conference will also feature the finalists of the first round of the CCEMC’s $35 million international Grand Challenge that seeks to uncover innovative uses for carbon.
