WV Reporter Uses FOIA To Probe Drilling Waste

Gas-drilling companies have been notoriously secretive about the chemicals they put in hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") fluids used to bust gas loose from tight underground formations. Many environmentalists and well-owners are worried that the chemicals may contaminate drinking water.

Now reporter Billy Wolfe at the Clarksburg (WV) Exponent Telegram has used the Freedom of Information Act to learn more about the drilling fluid — which is being treated by a local wastewater treatment plant.
