"Nominations: Lawmakers To Grill White House Regulations Czar"

"Senate lawmakers this week will question President Trump's pick to lead the White House regulatory review office.

The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will consider attorney Paul Ray to oversee the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. He's already serving in an acting capacity.

OIRA reviews all rules before they are finalized. Though opaque, the office has historically yielded considerable power over federal agency officials.

That's why a group of Democrats, led by Homeland Security Committee ranking member Gary Peters (D-Mich.), want more information about Ray's work at the White House."
