"LANSING, MI -- Protective sleeves will likely be wrapped around dented portions of the Line 5 oil and gas pipeline, which was damaged last month by a suspected anchor strike.
A timeline for the fix is not currently available, as Enbridge Energy still has to confirm plans with regulatory officials, according to company spokesperson Ryan Duffy.
A section of the Line 5 pipeline crosses the Straits of Mackinac in Lake Michigan.
The Line 5 damage occurred April 1 when, according to a lawsuit filed by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, a boat owned by an Escanaba-based shipping company dragged its anchor through the Straits, causing the damage."
