"2012 Goldman Environmental Prize Winners"

"Six individuals [were] honored Monday at the San Francisco Opera House for their efforts to conserve their local environments and ways of life."

"Established in 1989 by San Francisco philanthropists Richard N. Goldman and wife Rhoda H. Goldman, the annual Goldman Environmental Prizes are presented to individuals for 'sustained and significant efforts to protect and enhance the natural environment, often at great personal risk.'

This year, the $150,000 prizes are being awarded to six individuals from the United States, Russia, Argentina, Kenya, the Philippines and China, where Ma Jun is working to expose air and water violations of major manufacturers."

Emma Anderson reports for the San Francisco Chronicle April 16, 2012.
