In 2024, the Social Documentary Network will give two separate awards — the ZEKE Award for Systemic Change and the ZEKE Award for Documentary Photography, each with a $2,500 prize. Deadline: Jan 15, 2024.

The Sony World Photography Awards is accepting entries for 2022. There are four competitions: Professional, Open, Youth and Student. All are free to enter. Top prizes ranging from Sony digital imaging equipment to $25,000 USD. Deadlines (Open and Professional categories, respectively): Jan 7 and 14.

The Environmental Reporting Collective accepts applications for Collaborative Reporting Grants open to media outlets, journalists and freelancers from two different countries or regions. Grants tend to range from $1,000 to $3,000 USD. Next deadline: Aug 15, 2023.

The Environmental Reporting Collective is offering training grants for journalists and newsrooms anywhere in the world to organize self-tailored training programs for themselves. Three grants of $2,500 USD each are available. Deadline: Nov 20, 2021.

As members of the World Federation of Science Journalists, SEJ and its members are eligible to apply for this new funding of up to US$20,000 per project for work that strengthens science journalism locally while also benefitting the worldwide community. Projects or initiatives must be brand new. Apply by Oct 30, 2021.

Calling all indie book authors and publishers: This competition offers more than 80 awards – with over 80 monetary prizes totaling more than $10,000 in cash, including many for non-fiction. Deadlines: Sep 30, 2021 (earlybird/second category free); Feb 11, 2022 (final).

This year, Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press virtual awards are free and open to all, bringing the power of journalism to the forefront. During the event, hosted by NBC News’ Kristen Welker, you’ll get to hear from some really incredible journalists and media lawyers. 8:00 p.m. ET.

Women journalists who work in small markets providing local news and/or who cover underrepresented communities may apply by Sep 20 for a full-registration stipend to participate in the JAWS (Journalism and Women Symposium) Conference And Mentoring Program (CAMP) happening Oct 15-17, 2021 online and on demand.

These Awards recognize excellence in nonfiction that exemplifies the literary grace and commitment to serious research and social concern that characterized the work of the awards' Pulitzer Prize-winning namesake, J. Anthony Lukas. Four awards are given, all with cash prizes. Deadline: Dec 5, 2024.

The Neal Peirce Foundation, which supports journalism on city solutions, is offering travel grants of up to $1,500 to cover under-told stories about ways to make U.S. cities and their metro regions work better for all their people. Apply by Oct 7, 2024.
