One World Media's Global Reporting Summit 2024
One World Media & POPLab present Global Reporting Summit 2024:
Climate change and its impact on women and vulnerable groups in Latin America and the Caribbean
When: 21 – 23 November 2024 at London (Channel 4), Mexico City (Centro de Cultura Digital) & Online
The climate crisis is a pressing global emergency. However, its devastating effects disproportionately affect women, girls, and marginalised communities, predominantly in the global south. In the wake of extreme weather events that damage livelihoods and disrupt communities, we witness the disheartening repercussions: girls being withdrawn from schools, mothers and daughters compelled to abandon their homes, and an increase of trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Complex global problems need creative, collaborative approaches to inform the public and to help find solutions. This November, media development charity One World Media and investigative journalism collective POPLab will join forces to deliver a Summit in both London and Mexico City with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. This event will explore the role that filmmakers and journalists can play in confronting this urgent societal challenge.
By bringing together journalists, filmmakers, grassroot organisations, university students and policy experts to take part in a rich combination of panel discussions and workshops, we will explore the opportunities and ideas that can make a difference. We will discuss how to ethically report on the climate crisis, and how storytelling can be used to influence policy makers and leaders.
The event will be livestreamed. Workshops will not be livestreamed but resources from the sessions will be made available after the Summit.
Details and tickets. (London is ticketed; Mexico City and livestream are free.)
