ICFJ Webinar: Generative AI in Journalism — Insights and Lessons Learned

Event Date:
December 7, 2023

The International Center for Journalists invites you to gain insights from the lessons learned by NewsWyze and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. NewsWyze is a global AI project by journalists for journalists. The amazing people at NewsWyze work with interdisciplinary experts to put AI in the service of journalists around the world. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) on the other hand, is a United States government-funded media organization that broadcasts and reports news, information, and analysis to some parts of the world where it claims "the free flow of information is either banned by government authorities or not fully developed".

The webinar will delve into the practical applications of generative AI in journalism, drawing insights from the experiences of NewsWyze and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding on the fundamentals of AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP). The goal of this aspect of the webinar is to help demystify the core concepts of AI and NLP, laying the foundation for understanding their applications in journalism.

We will also be taking a closer look at real-world use cases of how generative AI is being employed in the journalism landscape today, showcasing its ability to automate tasks, generate creative content, and analyze vast amounts of data.

Moreover, we will be learning from the lessons learned from NewsWyze's generative AI journey. We will uncover what they described as the four key takeaways from NewsWyze's experience with generative AI, providing valuable insights for journalists seeking to adopt this technology responsibly and effectively.
