La. Gov. Jindal Declares Emergency in Gulf Oil Spill

"Gov. Bobby Jindal this morning issued a declaration of emergency stemming from the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.

Jindal's news release said the state Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act empowers the governor to make such a declaration. The declaration, largely a procedural act, is necessary to allow federal agencies and federal resources to be deployed if necessary, the news release said."

The New Orleans Times-Picayune had the story April 29, 2010.
