Thank you for considering my candidacy for a spot on the SEJ Board for 2023-26. It is an honor to be a candidate for one of the most prestigious board seats in the country. I toss my hat in the ring as a veteran journalist and 7-year member of SEJ.
The past 3 years I've served on SEJ's awards committee, helping shape the organization's policies for our annual competitions. Serving on this committee has already given me experience working with SEJ and advancing the organization's missions and goals. This past year I also served as president of the board of the Indian American Coalition of Texas. In my one-year tenure I helped transition the organization, expand its college mentorship program and form a 501-c-4 to a 501-c-3, so if elected to the SEJ board I bring experience with nonprofit boards.
My priorities on the SEJ Board, at the outset, would include ensuring we find a well-qualified person to succeed Meghan Parker, promote diversity in SEJ programs and bring in new members.
