Indigenous Media Sensitivity Training
What: FREE Cultural Sensitivity Training for Media Professionals with an interest in reporting on issues related to the Wind River Reservation.
Who: Hosted by the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes of the Wind River Reservation and the Greater Yellowstone Coalition.
Why: To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Yellowstone National Park, the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes of the Wind River Reservation have partnered with the Greater Yellowstone Coalition and others to host a series of trainings and gatherings designed to elevate tribal voices in the Greater Yellowstone region. In this free media sensitivity training, participants will learn more about the history, culture, traditions, and resiliency of the Wind River Reservation tribal community so that they can report on tribal stories with greater insight, sensitivity, and understanding. Presenters include:
- Angelo Baca (Diné/Hopi); activist, scholar, filmmaker, doctoral student
- Wes Martel (Eastern Shoshone); senior Wind River conservation associate for the Greater Yellowstone Coalition
- Crystal C’Bearing (Northern Arapaho); deputy director of the Northern Arapaho Tribal Historic Preservation Office
Who Should Attend: Non-tribal media professionals interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how to report tribal stories; those with an interest in issues pertaining to the Wind River Reservation; Indigenous media professionals always welcome.
