RCFP 50th Anniversary Virtual Celebration
Event Date:
September 28, 2021
The 2021 Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press virtual awards and 50th anniversary celebration is free and open to all, and we’re excited about the opportunity to reach more people, coast-to-coast — and even more excited to celebrate journalism’s role in democracy. We’ve created a program that brings the power of journalism to the forefront. During the virtual event, hosted by NBC News’ Kristen Welker, you’ll get to hear from some really incredible journalists and media lawyers.
Here are some highlights of the segments that will premiere during the event:
- Jane Mayer and Julie K. Brown talk about the obstacles they have overcome to publish investigations of corruption and sex trafficking
- Scott Applewhite and Leonel Mendez, both veteran photojournalists, describe running toward the news to capture images from front lines and what it’s like to capture the “decisive moment” that people will remember
- Theodore J. Boutrous Jr. and Amal Clooney discuss threats to press freedom in the United States and how the First Amendment is represented around the world
- Local journalists and lawyers from across the country talk about breaking big stories through coverage of court hearings and why timely access to documents is crucial for communities; and more.
When: Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
