Slow-Moving Hurricane Sally Makes Landfall In Alabama As Category 2

"Hurricane Sally barreled into the Gulf Coast Wednesday morning, making landfall as a Category 2 near Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Sally crossed over land, near the Alabama-Florida state line, around 5:45 a.m. ET with winds of 105 mph.

Conditions along the coast deteriorated overnight. Pieces of hazardous debris 'have become too numerous to list,' police in Pensacola, Florida, warned, urging drivers to stay off roads. The National Weather Service office in Mobile, Alabama, warned people to 'hunker down.'

The office reported 70 mph wind gusts in West Mobile and also issued a flash flood emergency, saying these 'warnings are issued for exceedingly rare situations when a severe threat to human life & catastrophic damage from a flash flood is happening.'"

Hollie Silverman reports for CNN September 16, 2020.
