Yellowstone River Field Institute
The Montana-based Freeflow Institute is offering an intensive issues-based journalistic exploration of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, August 12-19, 2019. The Yellowstone River Field Institute is co-hosted by Alexis Bonogofsky and Elliott Woods. This unique immersive seven-day course will sharpen your skills in telling effective and compelling stories while you investigate the issues facing public lands, communities and ecosystems in the Yellowstone region.
We invite you to reinvigorate your work with a reminder of what it means to truly be in the place you write about. With the support of National Geographic photographer Ronan Donovan and many more guests, Bonogofsky and Woods will facilitate provocative discussion and dedicated inquiry in the field:
- Backpack the rugged Black Canyon of the Yellowstone River + explore access issues in Yellowstone National Park
- Float the Yellowstone River through Tom Miner Basin and Paradise Valley, and discuss developmental pressures in Greater Yellowstone and their effects on ecological connectivity and animal migration
- Explore the working ranches, homesteads and wildlands of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and analyze the perceived divide between working and wild landscapes
- Let it all soak in over workshops and campfires at the historic Chico Hot Springs Resort at the base of Emigrant Peak
The Yellowstone River Field Institute is for serious storytellers, students of journalism, working journalists and professional communicators. The course is accredited through the School of Journalism at the University of Montana and may be taken for undergrad or graduate credit, professional development or continuing ed hours.
Reference SEJ when you register for the course and Freeflow will apply a 15% discount. Register by April 15 for additional early bird pricing. Registration deadline is June 30, 2019. Capacity on this course is 12 students, and we will close registration once it is full.
