North American Congress for Conservation Biology
The 2020 North American Congress for Conservation Biology (NACCB) takes place in Denver, Colo., July 26-31.
This biennial conference, hosted by the Society for Conservation Biology North America, will bring approximately 1000 top conservation scientists to Denver, Colorado, for field trips, workshops, symposia and social events around the theme of Crossing Boundaries: Innovative Approaches to Conservation.
The 2020 Congress will focus on innovative approaches to bringing together experts across disciplines to solve our most pressing needs related to population growth, land use, and climate change. Not only is this theme critical to the success of conservation, but it is also extremely relevant to the choice of conference location. Denver is a rapidly growing city situated among some of the most threatened ecosystems in North America, with ever-shrinking grasslands to the east and sensitive alpine areas to the west. Conservation biology aims to find solutions to the growing threats to biodiversity within a sustainable economic and social framework. Nowhere is this more pertinent than in the Rocky Mountain West, where we must find solutions to an ever-growing population and increasing demands on water and sensitive habitats. The conference will bring together an international group of specialists from multiple disciplines as well as engage researchers and land managers locally to tackle these important conservation issues and learn from regional examples.
COMPASS is supporting travel fellowships for journalists to attend the 2020 NACCB this July. We are committed to diversifying the stories that are told around conservation and conservation science. We strongly encourage applications from people who are thinking about and communicating these issues from unique identities, voices, and perspectives. We welcome applications from North American professional journalists and editors for print, broadcast and online outlets. Our goals are to inform reporting about conservation science in a broad range of outlets and to provide opportunities for journalists to connect with conservation research. Deadline to apply is Mar 16.
