"Duke Energy’s departure from the star-crossed American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity seems to have less to do with the viability of clean coal than with the viability of the groups that promote it.
The National Journal reported that Duke bailed out of the ACCCE today, apparently in an effort to distance itself from a lobbying group sullied by the fake-letters controversy over the summer.
And as plenty of folks have noted, that follows Duke’s earlier departure from other industry groups, such as the National Association of Manufacturers.
The point is that those groups had become increasingly hostile to any sort of climate legislation, something that Duke genuinely seems to welcome, even if it means a tectonic shift for its electricity business."
Keith Johnson reports for the Wall St. Journal's Environmental Capital blog September 2, 2009.
