"As pundits and political observers continue to sift through the various categories of 'winners' and 'losers' of the 2020 election, conservation advocates say that parks and public lands clearly came out on top.
On Nov. 3, voters approved nearly $3.7 billion in new funding for parks, public lands and climate resilience through various local ballot initiatives, according to an analysis from the Trust for Public Land.
"During the current pandemic we have seen that our parks and public lands are more important than ever for people to safely get outside for their physical and mental health," said Will Abberger, director of conservation finance at the Trust for Public Land. ...
There were 49 conservation measures across 19 different states on ballots this Election Day. TPL's conservation finance program, along with the organization's political arm, the Trust for Public Land Action Fund, supported 26 of these measures in 11 states, which included designing the questions and seeking voter support."
