"Supreme Court Justices Reject Michael Mann Climate Defamation Cases"

"The Supreme Court will not wade into a defamation battle between a prominent climate scientist and conservative groups that compared the scientist to a convicted child molester.

Justices for the nation's highest court today declined to take up a pair of cases, National Review Inc. and Competitive Enterprise Institute v. Michael Mann, over the objections of Justice Samuel Alito.

"A question of this nature deserves a place on our docket," the conservative justice wrote in his dissent.

The case made headlines for its unusual mix of climate science and First Amendment issues, centered on a 2012 blog post that accused climate scientist Michael Mann of fudging the science around his seminal "hockey stick" graph."
