New York: "State Critical Of PCB Proposal"

"FORT EDWARD, N.Y. -- A report by General Electric asserting that it does not expect to do further PCB dredging of the Hudson River — to include the impaired Champlain Canal — drew muted criticism Tuesday from the state, which is still deciding whether extra dredging is needed."

"'Scientific evidence and the legal standards will dictate the outcome of the state's substantial claim for natural resource damages against GE and not GE's statements. This major natural resource damage case will be resolved in a court of law,' Lisa King, spokeswoman for the state Department of Environmental Conservation, said Tuesday.

Officials from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, as well as the Canal Corp., had no reaction to GE's report, released late Friday to state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli."
