"I look to the Society of Environmental Journalists to build the capacity of the reporters who cover the issues I care about the most."

December 29, 2019 — I’m a scientist. I place a high value on quality environmental reporting because I believe that well informed citizens are the foundation of a vibrant democracy. I look to the Society of Environmental Journalists to build the capacity of the reporters that cover the issues I care about the most.

In my previous professional roles with AAAS and the National Academy of Sciences, and as NOAA Administrator and more, I’ve seen firsthand how vital it is to have accurate, impactful, courageous environmental journalism.

I’ve watched SEJ for nearly 30 years now and have spoken at several SEJ conferences. Because I am consistently impressed with the large number of stellar journalists working so hard to get it right, I’ve become an SEJ donor. Here’s a tangible way to help get vitally important and timely environmental information to the public. Won’t you join me?
