The Ocean-Climate Nexus: Let’s Take a Dive In!

Event Date:
June 16, 2022

The UN Ocean Conference to be held in Lisbon is only a couple of weeks away now.

Ahead of what sets out to be an important international gathering for ocean action, Sparknews, the UN, UNESCO and the Gulbenkian Foundation are organizing a session to get a head start on the conference and dive into the core theme of the ocean-climate nexus, on June 16, 2022 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. CEST / 9:00-10:00 a.m. ET.

This event is intended for journalists covering climate, environment, biodiversity and science stories. If you’d like to know more about what notions like ‘blue economy’ entail, to get a basic explanation from experts of phenomena like ocean deoxygenation and acidification, or to learn more about the link between overfishing and climate change, join:

  • Jessica Aldred, Ocean Editor of the China Dialogue
  • Francyne Harrigan, Chief Development Section, United Nations and spokesperson for the UN Ocean Conference
  • Andrew Hudson, Head of Water and Ocean Governance Programme at the UNDP
  • Sarah Cooley, Director of Climate Science at Ocean Conservancy — the nonprofit environmental advocacy group that helps formulating policies for the ocean

Attendance is open to all for free. Register here.
