Metcalf Institute's Inclusive SciComm Symposium

Event Date:
October 19, 2023 to October 21, 2023

Metcalf Institute's biennial symposium is an international convening of practitioners, trainers, researchers, educators, funders and others who work across diverse disciplines and settings to prioritize inclusion, equity and intersectionality in all forms of science communication.

The symposium defines “science communication” in its broadest sense: any information exchange designed to engage specific audiences in conversations or activities related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or medicine (STEMM) topics. Inclusive SciComm spans many related fields, such as public engagement with STEMM, informal science learning, journalism, community-based participatory research, inclusive pedagogy, service learning, community organizing and many others.

The inaugural Inclusive SciComm Symposium was held at URI in September 2018. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors and a desire to meet the growing demand for this type of gathering, the symposium was expanded to three days in 2019 to accommodate more participants, workshop sessions and activities.

Register by October 6 at 11:45 PM for the 2023 Inclusive SciComm Symposium (ISCS). Join us in person in Kingston, RI on October 19-21, 2023, or participate virtually with sessions held via Zoom Events on September 29, October 6, October 13, and November 3. You can register for the virtual or in-person conference, or both! The in-person conference experience is limited to 200 attendees and will sell out, so don't delay!
