How to Start and Succeed at Freelance Journalism

Event Date:
May 13, 2021

A webinar with Melissa Noel, freelance multimedia reporter, moderated by International Center for Journalists Global Forum Community Manager, Paul Adepoju.

We’d like to equip and guide journalists who are thinking of starting this journey, and those that are already practicing freelance journalism, on how to be effective and successful.

During this session, Noel will discuss various aspects of freelance journalism. She will provide tips and tricks on how to pitch across borders, carve out your niche/beats, develop relationships with editors and negotiate contracts.

Noel’s session will also cover finances as a freelancer (out-of-pocket expenses, taxes, training and thinking of yourself as a business). This will include how to use your journalism skills for different types of freelance opportunities.

The webinar will take place on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. ET.
