Canadian Court Takes up Shield Issue [1]

May 20, 2009

The Supreme Court of Canada this week takes up for the first time the issue of whether journalists have a right to protect confidential sources. The National Post, joined by civil liberties and media groups, will ask the court on Friday to overturn an Ontario Court of Appeal ruling that the police investigations override the Charter guarantee of free expression.
