Encyclopedia of Life [1]

Based at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, the second edition of the free, online collaborative Encyclopedia of Life, [2] published Sept. 5, 2011, is redesigned and expanded with information on more than one-third of all known species on Earth.

EOL now contains over 700,000 species pages and more than 600,000 still images and videos, due to the efforts of 176 content providers worldwide.

Find species of interest; create personal collections of photos and information; find or upload pictures, videos and sounds; and share comments, questions and expertise with users worldwide who share similar interests.
