"Tesla Lays Out Details for Massive Proposed Battery Factory" [1]

"Following a wave of good news for the company, Tesla Motors yesterday released details for its plans to build a massive battery manufacturing facility in the United States.

The company announced the proposed plant, which it has dubbed "The Gigafactory," in a conference call with investors last week, during which it also touted the world's highest customer satisfaction score from Consumer Reports for its flagship Model S sedan. The company sold a record 6,892 units of this car in the fourth quarter of 2013 and expects at least 55 percent more deliveries this year.

According to a release from the company, the Gigafactory for batteries will reach a cell production scale of 35 gigawatt-hours per year to supply 500,000 Tesla cars annually as well as foreign customers. The factory will employ 6,500 workers and draw on purpose-built solar panels and wind turbines."
