"Deadly Milton Leaves Florida With Flooding And Damage In Its Wake" [1]

"Floridians are picking up the pieces after Milton made landfall as a dangerous Category 3 hurricane and cut through the state as a Category 1 storm before moving offshore. In some areas, such as St. Petersburg, the storm represented a more than a 1-in-1000 year rainfall event.

More than a dozen people have died in Milton’s path of destruction through Florida, according to local officials. The state is anticipating more casualties, Gov. Ron DeSantis has said.

Nearly 3 million people are still without power due to Milton, the third hurricane to hit Florida this year. Wind gusts of 100 mph were recorded near Tampa. Milton ripped off the roof of Tropicana Field, which was set to be a makeshift shelter for first responders."

Elizabeth Wolfe, Dalia Faheid, Jessie Yeung, Emma Tucker, Kathleen Magramo, Holly Yan, Andy Rose, Maureen Chowdhury, Dakin Andone, Chelsea Bailey, Aditi Sangal, Tori B. Powell, Cindy VonQuednow, Ashley R. Williams and Taylor Romine report for CNN October 10, 2024. [2]
