"Union Carbide is defending its former chief executive now wanted for arrest in India, saying that managers at the company’s plant in Bhopal could not have anticipated a gas leak that killed 10,000 people 25 years ago.

On Friday, an Indian court issued an arrest warrant for the former executive, Warren M. Anderson, and ordered India’s government to press Washington for his extradition. Mr. Anderson was arrested just after the disaster but left the country and now resides in New York State."
