"California Solar Power Tower Withdrawn in Favor of Monument" [1]

"Solar energy developer BrightSource Energy, Inc. has withdrawn plans for a 5,000 acre solar thermal facility to be located in the Broadwell Valley in California's Mojave Desert. BrightSource had applied to the federal Bureau of Land Management to build a 500-megawatt solar power tower facility at the Broadwell Dry Lake.

The site of the proposed solar power tower project is in a remote wildland area being planned for inclusion in a new national monument proposed by California Senator Dianne Feinstein. "

Environment News Service had the story September 18, 2009. [2]
