SEJ/CUNY FOIA Workshop: Separating Facts from Fake News

Do you use FOIA requests in your work? Can’t live without FOIA, but wish you were better at it? Come join us on November 3rd for a free Environmental FOIA workshop in New York and pick up tips that will turn you into a FOIA pro in no time.

SEJ is co-sponsoring a workshop at the CUNY Law School on environmental FOIA, Separating Facts from Fake News: Environmental FOIA in the Trump Era [1]. The event is also being livestreamed in part to some colleges around the country.

Join some of the nation’s top lawyers and journalists who use FOIA in their environmental reporting and litigation. Learn FOIA tips and traps. Participate in small group discussions around FOIA issues.

Brentin Mock of City Lab offers the opening keynote. Derek Kravitz of Pro Publica and other journalists will have a round-table discussion of their work. Eric Lipton of the New York Times will present some of his best tips and FOIA strategies. Attorneys from the Southern Environmental Law Center, Climate Science Legal Defense Fund and others will discuss their work. And there will be small-group workshopping where you can roll up your sleeves and really dig into FOIA issues.
