Since 1950, the Sidney Hillman Foundation awards the annual Hillman Prizes in Journalism, [1] honoring journalists who pursue investigative reporting and deep storytelling in service of the common good. Recipients exemplify reportorial excellence, storytelling skill, and social justice impact.

- Book (nonfiction)
- Newspaper Journalism (story, series or multimedia; print or online)
- Magazine Journalism (longform; print or online)
- Broadcast Journalism (television, radio or podcast; at least 20 minutes in total package length)
- Opinion & Analysis Journalism (commentary and analysis in any medium)
The contest is open to journalists and subjects globally, although work must have been intended for and be widely accessible to a U.S. audience. Winners will be announced in April 2025. Hillman Prize winners will be awarded a $5,000 honorarium and a certificate at our annual ceremony to be held in New York City on May 5, 2026.

The Hillman Foundation also awards the The Sidney, [2] a $500 honorarium given monthly for an outstanding piece of investigative journalism that fosters social and economic justice.
