Correction: Schregardus and Clean Air

September 5, 2001

The TipSheet of August 29, 2001, erred in implying that former Ohio EPA chief Donald Schregardus opposed the US-EPA's enforcement initiative against Ohio power plants under the Clean Air Act's New Source Review provisions. These actions were officially filed after Schregardus left office, and we have no information supporting the assertion that he opposed them. Schregardus did publicly and legally oppose the US-EPA's October 27, 1998, rulemaking which would force Ohio and other states to clamp down on emissions of nitrogen oxides making smog worse in downwind northeastern states.
