Climate Change and the 2020 Elections

Event Date:
July 30, 2020

On Thursday, July 30, at 12:00 noon US ET, Covering Climate Now hosts our next Talking Shop webinar, about climate change and the 2020 US elections. RSVP below — we hope to see you there!

Twenty-twenty may be remembered as the year humanity decided whether “to keep driving off the climate cliff—or to take the last exit.” So wrote Justin Worland in a must-read, July 9 cover story for TIME magazine. The US elections in November will shape whether the world’s biggest economy leaves the Paris Agreement or launches a Green New Deal to meet the agreement’s goal of keeping temperature rise “well below” 2 degrees Celsius. And polls indicate that most Americans, across the political spectrum, are concerned about climate change.

Will newsrooms make the climate story central to our 2020 campaign coverage? How can we best tell this story amid the pandemic, economic collapse and racial justice protests rightly occupying our attention? What are the opportunities to pursue—and the pitfalls to avoid?

Join us for an hour of candid, collegial discussion. Covering Climate Now’s Talking Shops are organized by and for journalists only — but you or your news outlet do NOT have to be CCNow partners to participate.
